To further illustrate the point, Schiller brings up a Web page on both devices. When browsing it's 49 percent larger in portrait, and 67 percent larger in landscape mode. "It doesn't stop there," he goes on.
Now showing the difference between 16:9 and the iPad's more paper-like aspect ratio.
Schiller talking smack about "the other platform" apps, knocking them as "scaled up" and "stretched out" phone apps.
That includes Yelp, Pandora, Vimeo, Trip Advisor.
iPad Mini has an A5 processor. Same as iPod Touch fifth-gen. FaceTime HD camera. 5MP iSight camera.
On the inside:
- A dual-core A5 processor
- FaceTime HD front-side camera
- 5 megapixel iSight camera on the back
- 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi @ 5.2Ghz.
- Lightning connector
("same as iPod Touch" is my observation. Performance of this A5 may be different.)
"Every inch an iPad," is the tagline. And now we get a video of it. And yep, there's Jony Ive talking it up.
Ive being Apple's chief designer by the way. A frequent face of new product intro videos.
The new iPod Touch and this iPad mini will be very closely compared.
iPad mini being showed off by someone on a bike, also a doctor in a hospital.
Interesting that this didn't get an A6. Probably due to price.
Doing things like showing videos, editing videos, watching sports games, reading things.
Ive says you can't just cut the product down, the product had to be tweaked, which is why the sides are thinned down.
Emphasizing one-hand use of the iPad mini in the video: side bezel smaller for thumb access.
Also new: smart covers for the iPad mini.
There's no more aluminum hinge. It's all one material.
Largest and thinnest battery in an iPad yet, the company says.
And that's it for the video. Schiller back up now, presumably with the price tag for all this.
Five colors for the smart covers plus a Product Red one as well. Starts at 16GB of storage Wi-Fi @ $329. $30 more than the entry-level iPod Touch.
Six colors of Smart Covers. No surprise keyboard covers.
32GB @ $429 and $529. Cellular at $459, $559 and $659.
Wi-Fi ship November 2nd. Pre-orders for Wi-fi start on Friday.
2 weeks later the Wi-Fi + 4G models come.
Now the "which iPad do I get?" debate gets hard. Nov 2 availability for Wi-Fi, then cellular two weeks later. Prices of mini and 4th-gen iPad overlap a bit.
And we're gonna see a TV ad for it now that Schiller says will introduce people to the product in a "simple and fun way."
