Performers who opened the awards show were Usher followed by Nicki Minaj and Kelly Clarkson.
American Idol judge Randy Jackson asked for support for the Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy victims. The hurricane hit the north east late last October.
Brandy is now onstage, presenting tribute to Whitney Houston.
